Dance Around the World returns to Cecil Sharp House
For a taste of the 2010 event click here. The programme grows every year with lots of long-standing friends of the festival performing and teaching but lots of new faces (and feet) too!
For the 2014 event, expect a non-stop programme of performances in the spacious hall upstairs and 1-hour taster workshops in the two halls downstairs and in the dance marquee in the garden. There's a choice of social dances on both evenings too. Watch this space for programme details as they develop. Find us on Facebook too.
Workshops, Performances And Social Dances
The non-stop programme of performances, workshops and social dances runs from 10.00am to 11.00pm on both days. There will be over fifty performing groups representing cultures from regions as diverse as Algeria, South-East Europe, North and South Africa, the Caribbean and North and South America. Dance Workshops are a very important part of Dance Around The World and there are lots of them! On Saturday evening there will be the sizzling Latin/American evening in the upstairs hall. At the same time a French GRAND BALL in the downstairs hall will be hosted by the SOAS French Folk Dance Society with music by Helena Torpy and Steve Turner. Click here for more information. On Sunday evening, the inspiring and energising international dance band Cloudburst will play for a pulse-raising Anglo- International ceilidh. Downstairs SWING PATROL will host an evening of SWING DANCING. This will included some instruction segments.
